Abstract:
Intramuscular injections of progesterone, serum gonadotrophtn and testosterone propionate cause.atrophic changes and decline in ascorbic acid content of the rat's adrenal cortex. The severity of cellular atrophy and the extent of depletion of ascorbic acid, however, are more marked in the androgen recipients. than in the rest of the experimental animals. A definite interrelationship exists between the histololaical response and the ascorbic acid content in the hormone-treated animals whIch suggest a lowered secretory activity of the adrenal cortex. These responses are probably mediated through a diminished output of pituitary adrenocorticotrophine .
