Abstract:
Biochanin A (BCA) is a methoxylated isoflavone which is the major constituent in red clover and in commercially available extracts of this plant. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the bioavailability and pharmacokinetics of BCA in female rats after oral and intravenous routes of administration. The bioavailability of BCA was found to be approximately 4.6%. BCA was found to have a high clearance and a large apparent volume of distribution.
