dc.description.abstract The influence pf makaradhwaja has been studied on the catalase activity of rat liver homogenate and compared with that of red mercuric sulphide and mercuric chloride. Catalase activity is inhibited to the extent of 80·1, 82·4 and _ 97·6 per cent by malearadhwaja, red mercuric sulphide and mercuric chloride respectively. The effect of makaradhwaja (2,5 mg.) corresponds approximately to that of 0·8 !J.g. of mercury ion concentration. Increase in the concentration of the drug enhances the inhibition slightly. Incubation of the drug with 0·5 per cent hydrochloric acid prior to the experiment also increases the inhibition en
