dc.description.abstract The influence of makaradhwaja on the oxidation of L-tyrosine by rat liver homogenate has been studied and compared with that of red mercuric sulphide, calomel and mercuric chloride. These compounds inhibit the oxidation of tyrosine by rat liver homogenate to the extent of 22'0,16,7, 34·4 and 73·5 per cent respectively. Since makaradhwaja also inhibits the oxidation of ascorbic acid, it is suggested that the effect of makaradhwaja on tyrosine oxidation by the liver homogenate may be due to its inhibitory action on the coenzymic function of ascorbic acid. en
