Abstract:
Studies of the effect of inhibitors on the growth of S. griseus, streptomycin formation and glucose oxidation have shown that
(1)arsenate affects the first two activities,
(2)arsenite and iodoacetate inhibit all the three activities, (3) fluoride seems to enhance slightly streptomycin yield without much effect on the other two activities, and (4) DNP enhances the oxidative activity markedly.Various intermediates of the EMP pathway and of the TCA cycle have been tested for their oxidizability by cell suspension and the results obtained are inconclusive. All the enzymes of the EMP pathway, except triose-phosphate isomerase (not tested for its presence), have been shown to be present in the cell-free extracts of S. griseus, Besides, aconitase, TPN, Isocltrfc dehydrogenase and diaphorase have been demonstrated in the extracts.
