Abstract:
The invasiveness and infectivity in rats and guinea-pigs of some strains of Entamoeba histolytica isolated in culture from human carriers and acute cases have been investigated. Of the nine strains of E.histolytica isolated from contact carriers, only one has been found to be invasive to rats though majority of them produce infection in rats. The virulence of the invasive contact carrier strain is poor compared with the strain isolated from the acute case. The infectivity of three strains from the contact carriers and the strain from the acute case has been observed to be more or less similar both in rats and in guinea-pigs.
