dc.description.abstract The in vivo and in vitro amoebicidal activities of emetine, conessine, quinine, quinidine and chloro, dihydro and hexahydro derivatives of desoxy quinine and quinidine have been determined employing weanling albino rat as test animals. The activity of compounds obtained by modifying quinine and quinidine are not comparable to that of emetine. Chloro-9-desoxy quinine and quinidine are least active whereas 9-desoxydihydro derivatives show fair activity. Majority of the compounds which show slight in vitro activity are inactive in vivo.9-Desoxydihydro quinine and quinidine are exceptions, being more active in vivo. en
