dc.description.abstract A colorimetric method for the estimation of inositol has been described. Inositol is heated with periodic acid solution, cooled in ice and then treated with a solution of 2.7- dihydroxy naphthalene in sulphuric acid to develop a pink colour. The colour intensity which is a direct measure of the concentration of inositol is then measured in a suitable spectrophotometer at 535 mp. This method is also applicable in the estimation of inositol in pharmaceutical preparations with suitable preliminary treatment. en
