Abstract: Fruticosine and fruticosamine from Kopsia fruticosa (ker) A.DC. are isomeric heptacyclic alkaloids,C22H24N2O4, and they differ only in the configuration of the secondary alchoal residue. By combining evidence from chemical, spectroscopic, and mass- spectrometric studies, constitutions are derived for fruticosine and fruticosamine. These are novel alkaloids in being the only representatives of the Aspidosoerma group which differ from normality in the non-tryptamine portion (C9-10 unit) of the molecule.
