| Abstract: | An effective route towards the synthesis of 2-methylbenzofurans has been reported. This method allows the preparation of a variety of 2-methyl benzofurans by DBU catalysed dehydroiodination of easily accessible 2-iodomethyl-2,3-dihydrobenzofurans.
